Black Carpet Beetle (Attagenus Unicolor)

Appearance

  • Approximately 3-5mm long.
  • Shiny black to dark brown in colour, with brownish legs.

Life Cycle

  • Physical maturity achieved in 6-12 months.
  • Larva up to 7mm long when fully fed.
  • Body covered with stiff bristles.

Habits

  • Relatively widespread and destructive.
  • Often associated with bird-nesting in roof cavities.
  • Leather, silk, carpet and felt are all at risk of infestation.
